10 Mistakes That Will
RUIN Your Trip

The traps that eat your first morning, your lunch, and your fireworks spot, plus the exact fix for each one. By Lauren Cotter, Disneyland Paris Silver Passholder, 5+ visits a year.

1

Rope-Dropping Crush's Coaster as an Offsite Guest

⚠️
The trap: sprinting to Crush's Coaster at regular 9:30 AM opening when you're staying offsite. Disney Hotel guests get 60 minutes of Extra Magic Time, so the wait is already sitting at 60 to 90 minutes by the time offsite guests scan in. You burn your best morning hours instantly.
💡
The fix: save Crush's Coaster for the final hour before park close when wait times drop, ride during parades, or use the Single Rider line if your party doesn't mind splitting up. If it's a non-negotiable must-do, buy a single Premier Access pass once to guarantee it.
2

Packing Prohibited Items & Getting Turned Away at Security

⚠️
The trap: Disneyland Paris bag checks are thorough. Packing banned items means confiscation, or being turned away to trek back to your hotel or luggage lockers before you can scan in.

❌ Leave at hotel

  • Selfie sticks & camera tripods, strictly banned
  • Glass containers or bottles of any kind, except small glass baby food jars

✅ Okay to pack

  • Outside food & snacks, 100% allowed for long queues
  • Water & refillable bottles, metal or plastic, free refill stations in both parks
  • A high-capacity power bank, in-park charger rentals are pricey
3

Forgetting an OTC Mini Med-Kit

⚠️
The trap: assuming you can buy basic medicine in the parks. Unlike US Disney parks, French Disney parks don't sell painkillers or blister plasters in their shops. The nearest pharmacy is a train stop away at Val d'Europe.
💡
The fix: pack a small pouch with ibuprofen, paracetamol, anti-diarrheal or Pepto, and blister plasters or moleskin, so a 20,000-step day doesn't send you off-site.
4

Ignoring the "Rider Switch" (Baby Switch) Option

⚠️
The trap: parents queueing twice so each can ride, while one waits back with a small child or non-rider. Most guests never realise this option exists, Disney barely advertises it.
💡
Standard procedure: ask the entrance Cast Member for "Baby Switch" with your full party. Parent 1 queues and rides standby while Parent 2 waits with the child, then you swap, Parent 2 enters via Premier Access with zero wait.
🔥
Pro-hack, the Single Rider combo: have Parent 1 queue via the Single Rider line instead of standby. They collect the Baby Switch pass at the exit and hand it to Parent 2, who enters via Premier Access. Both of you ride a 90-minute coaster in under 30 minutes total.
5

Standing in Physical Queues for Quick-Service Food

⚠️
The trap: queuing at the register between 12:00 and 2:00 PM. Lunch lines alone can burn 30 to 45 minutes of park time.
💡
The fix: use Mobile Order, officially Click & Collect, in the app at high-traffic spots like Casey's Corner, Café Hyperion, and Hakuna Matata. Lock in your pick-up slot early, and pair it with eating slightly off-peak at 11:30 AM or 3:00 PM.
6

Buying Popcorn on Main Street Right Before Fireworks

⚠️
The trap: Main Street carts get overrun 30 minutes before the nighttime show. You'll waste an hour in line and lose your viewing spot.
💡
The fix: grab popcorn and snacks in Frontierland or Adventureland first, then head to Main Street purely to secure your spot.
7

Expecting Table-Service Walk-Ups Without Pre-Booking

⚠️
The trap: assuming you can walk up to a table at spots like Bistrot Chez Rémy or Walt's. They're usually booked out months in advance.
💡
The fix: reservations open 2 months ahead on the app, or 12 months ahead if you're staying at an official Disney Hotel. Keep refreshing closer to your trip, cancellations drop constantly. Backup option: Brasserie Rosalie in Disney Village, book online in advance and cancel same day if you don't need it. And if you do hold a reservation you're not using, cancel it, it frees the slot for another first-timer.
8

Battling Crowds on Central Main Street, U.S.A.

⚠️
The trap: walking straight down the middle of Main Street during parades or peak afternoon hours. A 2-minute walk to the castle turns into a 20-minute struggle.
💡
The fix: use Liberty Arcade or Discovery Arcade, running parallel behind the Main Street shops. They're covered, quietly themed, and get you to Central Plaza or Frontierland in about two minutes flat.
9

Joining the Immediate Post-Fireworks Exit Stampede

⚠️
The trap: sprinting for the gates the second the nighttime show ends, alongside tens of thousands of other guests. Expect an hour-long bottleneck at the train station.
💡
Option A: grab a bench, enjoy the castle lighting, or browse Main Street shops (they stay open after ride closures) and let the crowd filter out for 25 minutes.
Option B, Lauren's favourite: walk over to Sequoia Lodge's Redwood Bar and Lounge for a signature cocktail. By the time you're done, the train station is empty, or grab an Uber to Val d'Europe for around €12.
10

Treating Disneyland Paris Like a Pure Coaster Park

⚠️
The trap: sprinting from coaster to coaster with a rigid checklist, and missing the storytelling and detail that makes this park what it is.
💡
Slow down for: La Tanière du Dragon under the castle, the Sleeping Beauty Castle stained-glass gallery, a ride on a Main Street vehicle, Together: A Pixar Musical Adventure, and yes, champagne on Main Street. Name another park where that's on the menu.

✨ Pro Tip From Lauren

"Slow down and enjoy the bubble! There are very few places where you can step away from life's stresses completely. Soak up the details, try the specialty snacks, and enjoy every moment of the magic."
